Festival Monday at the 3rd Timeless Film Festival Warsaw
The first festival weekend may already be behind us, but the 3rd Timeless Film Festival Warsaw is showing no signs of slowing down. Today, cinema screens across the city will light up with titles we can confidently call some of the hidden gems of this year’s edition. We’re certain they’ll make even a Monday feel special.
Hidden gems of the programme: Monday discoveries
Today’s selection brings together films that shine with particular brilliance:
The Mosquito Coast, Luna cinema, 2:00 pm – Harrison Ford in one of his most unexpected roles. As a brilliant inventor, he abandons civilisation to build a “paradise” in the heart of the jungle. A fascinating study of obsession, masterfully directed by Peter Weir.
Blood of the Condor, Iluzjon cinema, 2:00 pm – a landmark of Bolivian cinema. A stark black-and- white film that became a political manifesto in defence of Indigenous communities.
Macunaíma, Luna cinema, 3:00 pm – a legendary film that both closes the Cinema Novo movement and surpasses it in formal audacity and ambition, in its attempt to capture the character of a country-continent shaped by many races and cultures.
The Waiting List, Iluzjon cinema, 4:00 pm – if you’re in the mood for sharp, intelligent humour, head to Cuba. This warm, absurd comedy follows a group of stranded passengers at a bus station who decide to take matters into their own hands. In our view, it’s the perfect choice for a Monday. The screening will be preceded by an introduction from Piotr Kobus, curator of the Classic Latin American Cinema section.
Dark Blue World, Muranów cinema, 4:45 pm – a Czech blockbuster about RAF pilots. A visually striking story of male friendship, courage and love in the shadow of war. Winner of Czech Lion Awards for Best Director, Cinematography, Editing and Music, it remains one of the most widely seen Czech films of all time. The screening will be introduced by Maciej Gil, curator of The Svěráks: An Oscar-Winning Family section.
Lizard in a Woman’s Skin, Luna cinema, 6:00 pm – a treat for fans of giallo. Lucio Fulci delivers a dreamlike, psychedelic thriller set against the backdrop of 1970s London. Essential viewing for lovers of stylish darkness. The screening will be preceded by an introduction from Stanisław Bardadin, curator of the Giallo!!! section.
Monterey Pop, Muranów cinema, 10:30 pm – a true musical time capsule. A record of the 1967 “Summer of Love” festival, capturing breakthrough performances by Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin, among others. The screening will be preceded by an introduction from Wiesław Weiss.
