Festival Thursday – what’s on today?
Another festival Thursday is ahead of us, bringing together big themes and the sheer pleasure of cinema. From stories of racial tension in American film, through hidden gems from different decades, to the life of the festival unfolding between screenings.
An accessible festival
Starting with this year’s edition, Timeless Film Festival Warsaw is expanding its programme to include screenings with audio description and subtitles for Deaf and hard-of-hearing audiences. We want the magic of film classics to be accessible to everyone, which is why we have prepared selected screenings for blind and partially sighted viewers, as well as for audiences with hearing impairments.
For us, accessibility is an ongoing process – one we intend to develop together with our audience. At the festival, you can always count on the help of trained volunteers, and if you have any questions, please contact us at: pomoc@timelessfilmfestival.pl.

Focus section: Black and White States: Race in American Cinema, 1915–1991
The history of American cinema is also a history of racial tension. For years, Hollywood marginalised Black characters, but our section traces the road towards change – from films that reinforced prejudice to the bold voices of filmmakers speaking from within their own experience.
Today, from this section, we especially recommend:
Mississippi Burning, 2:30 pm, Luna cinema – a gripping thriller about the FBI investigation into the disappearance of civil rights activists in the Deep South.
Do the Right Thing, 6:15 pm, Luna cinema – Spike Lee captures the heat of a Brooklyn summer and a mounting racial conflict that remains painfully relevant to this day.

Hidden gems of the program: today’s recommendations
Today’s selection offers a true kaleidoscope of cinematic experiences. We begin in 1964 with Marco Ferreri’s provocative film, which beneath its grotesque humour and black comedy conceals a bitter satire on greed and the objectification of others – The Ape Woman screens at 6:30 pm at Muranów cinema. Our next stop is the turn of the 1970s and 1980s, when cinema screens were filled with Peter Weir’s tense and claustrophobic thriller The Plumber (2:00 pm, Luna cinema), while the Polish horror film Medium (6:00 pm, Iluzjon cinema) made its debut. We stay in the 1980s with Harrison Ford as a brilliant inventor in The Mosquito Coast (8:30 pm, Iluzjon cinema). We end today’s recommendations with a 1991 film that marked the emergence of one of the most remarkable creative tandems in contemporary Czech cinema – the Svěrák family. The Elementary School screens at 4:00 pm at Muranów cinema.

Festival essentials
Last chance for merch! We have two pieces of news. Let’s start with the good one: there are still a few grey and green caps left. You can also still pick up bags, T-shirts and books.
Festival clubs: after the screenings, we’ll see you at Bar Studio and Pardon, To Tu, where we can exchange impressions after a full day of films.
Festival discounts: the festival has already been going for almost a week. A proper dose of caffeine may come in handy, so we continue to recommend our partner venues offering discounts for festivalgoers.
Last Minute queues: a sold-out screening is not always the end of the story. If you’d still like to get into a full screening, check the Last Minute queue, which opens 30 minutes before every screening.
