Festival Tuesday starts now
A festival is not only about time spent in front of the silver screen, but also – perhaps above all – about community. And with that come evenings, conversations and fun that continue long after the end credits roll. That is why, over the next few days, we are bringing the festival atmosphere into our festival clubs, where a series of events will let you dive even deeper into the worlds of music and cinema, test your knowledge of timeless film, and even step up to the microphone yourself.
But before the evening begins, as always, we’ll be waiting for you with an abundance of films from early afternoon onwards.
Festival club events: what’s happening today and in the days ahead?
Today: Tribute to Miles Davis – evening listening session, 9:00 pm, Bar Studio
Right after the screening of Miles Davis: Live in Germany at Muranów cinema, join us for a vinyl listening session devoted to the jazz legend. This year marks the 100th anniversary of Miles Davis’s birth, so a shared toast feels only right. The event will be hosted by Janek from Cukier, a DJ and passionate advocate for vinyl culture. After the talk and listening session – headphones will be available for those who want them – Janek will invite you to stay for a jazz vinyl set. The event is open to everyone.
Wednesday: Timeless PubQuiz, 11:30 pm, Pardon, To Tu
Come and see how much you really remember from the history of cinema. Hosting the evening will be Agnieszka Matan and Joanna Pawluśkiewicz from Kolektyw Śmiesznie, which guarantees plenty of humour and zero pretension.
Friday: Late-night karaoke, 12:00 am, Pardon, To Tu
The night won’t end at the cinema. Bring your favourite film songs to the stage at Pardon, To Tu. You can sing solo, in duos or in groups, while your vocal warm-up – and the comic atmosphere – will be in the hands of Agnieszka Matan, Maciek Kaczyński and Aleksandra Markowska from Kolektyw Śmiesznie.

A cinephile’s treat: the magic of 35mm
For lovers of the distinctive grain and gentle rustle of analogue projection, today at Iluzjon we have two special 35mm screenings:
3:30 pm, Who Wants to Kill Jessie? – a mischievous parody of the Western pop culture banned under socialism, in which characters from an American comic strip unexpectedly spill into the everyday life of the Beránek couple. Thanks to its collaboration with illustrator Kája Saudek, the film delights with its original speech-bubble aesthetic and singular humour – one that once came close to inspiring a Hollywood remake. The screening will be preceded by an introduction from Maciej Gil, curator of the section Václav Vorlíček: A Director of Wonders.
8:45 pm, The Year of Living Dangerously – Peter Weir’s first major international success is a gripping blend of adventure cinema and mystical journey, set in Indonesia on the brink of the bloody coup of 1965. In this emotionally charged story of journalistic ethics and forbidden love, Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver shine alongside Linda Hunt, who won an Academy Award for her performance. The screening will be preceded by an introduction from Michał Oleszczyk, curator of the section Peter Weir: Mystic and Traveller.

Hidden gems of the program: discoveries for festival Tuesday
We hardly know how to choose from such an abundant programme ourselves. For those who have not yet mapped out today’s screenings, here is a quick guide:
An early masterpiece by Martin Scorsese, inspired by his own childhood, and a fierce portrait of New York’s Little Italy, where the gangster lives of Johnny Boy and Charlie unfold at the crossroads of the sacred and the profane. The film that defined Scorsese’s style and became one of the foundations of modern American cinema – Mean Streets screens at 2:30 pm at Luna cinema.
In his Brooklyn masterpiece, Spike Lee lays bare racial tension and police brutality, creating a film whose painful urgency has endured for decades – Do the Right Thing screens at 2:30 pm at Muranów cinema.
This Oscar-nominated comedy-drama by the Menzel–Svěrák duo is a warm, melancholic Czech classic about the inhabitants of a charming village, where the fate of a hot-headed driver and his awkward helper becomes a celebration of community – My Sweet Little Village screens at 3:30 pm at Muranów cinema.
John Singleton’s cult debut – the film that brought him his historic Academy Award nomination – is an authentic and painful portrait of growing up in South Central, a world marked by violence and drugs. Boyz n the Hood screens at 5:15 pm at Luna cinema.
Francesco Barilli’s directorial debut is perhaps the most Hitchcockian giallo of them all, where painterly surrealism merges with oneiric horror – The Perfume of the Lady in Black screens at 6:00 pm at Luna cinema.
Based on Thomas Keneally’s acclaimed novel, this searing drama tells the story of an Aboriginal man who, after years of humiliation and exploitation at the hands of white employers, turns to bloody revenge – The Chant of Jimmie Blacksmith screens at 8:45 pm at Muranów cinema.
