Along with her emerging womanhood, she discovers telekinetic powers she cannot control. Brian De Palma blends the conventions of a teen movie with lyrical horror, telling a story of deadly longing for freedom and fear of menstruation and female sexuality. The Oscar-nominated performances by Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie, as the sinister mother-daughter duo, are utterly chilling. Pino Donaggio’s haunting score and Mario Tosi’s kaleidoscopic cinematography make Carrie one of the most visually striking horror films ever made.

Brian De Palma – born in 1940 in Newark, New Jersey, USA. He studied physics, but he quit and moved to Sarah Lawrence College where he attended classes held by Hitchcock and Warhol. He became famous for discovering Robert de Niro in Greetings and for his high-budget debut of 1976 – the horror Carrie, based on the first novel by Stephen King. De Palma loves subtle or radical deconstructions of genres. Most frequently, he chooses gangster cinema (The Untouchables, Carlito’s Way, The Black Dahlia). He has sufficient skills to make a professional global conspiracy thriller (Mission Impossible), and a science fiction film, too (Mission to Mars). He doesn’t shun bold solutions either (divided screen in Scarface, innovative form of Redacted).
