The Lady and the Tramp

On June 22, 1955, The Lady and the Tramp premiered in the United States as the 15th feature-length animated film in Walt Disney’s official canon – and the first to be shot in widescreen CinemaScope. The story follows Lady (known in Poland as Zuzia), a refined cocker spaniel from an affluent home, who gradually falls for Tramp (called Hultaj in Polish), a scrappy, street-smart mutt. This timeless Disney classic became an iconic children’s melodrama, featuring what is arguably the most famous animated kiss of all time – over a shared plate of spaghetti. Viewed through a modern lens, the film can be interpreted as a reflection of post-war America’s class tensions. At its core, The Lady and the Tramp is a story about breaking social barriers – a privileged young lady from a proper WASP household falling for a free-spirited “outsider” who introduces her to a world beyond her sheltered life. 

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of its U.S. premiere, we invite you to a special screening of The Lady and the Tramp in its 1962 Polish-dubbed version, featuring Kalina Jędrusik as the voice of Lady and Wieńczysław Gliński as Tramp. The Polish song lyrics were adapted by Joanna Kulmowa.
