Feelings
The screening will be preceded by the introduction by Vita Maria Drygas, curator of the section Vytautas Žalakevičius: Time Suspended.
On the centennial anniversary of cinema, Lithuanian film critics voted Feelings the country’s top film of all time. Set near the end of WWII, the story revolves around a set of twins. The wife of one of them, Kasparas, dies during childbirth leaving him to care for two infants. The widower moves in with his brother, Andrius, who lives with his wife Agne. Agne still carries a torch for Kasparas. She induces the brothers to emigrate to Sweden and hopes her in-law’s love will be rekindled abroad. Life has other plans, ultimately leaving the brothers separated for a decade. The script by Vytautas Žalakevičius (Nobody Wanted to Die) eschews the political overtones and contemplations of life and death so popular in movies of the time, in favor of psychoanalysis of the characters ensnared in a particular triangle. But, Feelings is no sentimental melodrama. Due to the emigration theme in the film, it was banned in the entire Soviet Union with the exception of Lithuania.
