The screening will be preceded by an introduction by Karolina Hołub.
Sopot, October 3, 1933. Selin, a commissioner of the Gdańsk police (Władysław Kowalski), wakes up on the beach. During a lesson, teacher Luiza (Grażyna Szapołowska) abruptly leaves her classroom and steals a dress from a museum. Andrzej Gaszewski (Jerzy Zelnik) boards a train in Warsaw and travels to Sopot. Meanwhile, a civil servant named Georg Netz (Jerzy Stuhr) injects an unknown man in a secluded villa. Soon after, Selin discovers a similar puncture mark on his own hand. None of these individuals can explain their actions. They do not know one another, yet something inexplicably draws them together. The investigation leads back to a crime committed 36 years earlier. Signs in the sky – an approaching solar eclipse – and on the ground – Sopot darkening with Nazi uniforms – suggest that something truly terrifying is about to unfold.
Today, Koprowicz’s film remains one of the most original works of Polish horror. It merges crime intrigue with esotericism, becoming a haunting meditation on the ghosts of the past – both metaphysical and historical.
