Seeing Differently: Presenting the Poster for the 2nd Edition of Timeless Film Festival Warsaw

We turn our gaze toward the second edition of Timeless Film Festival Warsaw – quite literally, as vision and light have become the central themes of this year’s festival poster.

Its central figure is Mai Zetterling – cosmopolitan, provocative, and unafraid. Małgorzata Sadowska, curator of the Mai Zetterling: A Rebel by Choice section, describes the filmmaker’s work as follows: “Mai Zetterling’s cinema is, above all, a space of total freedom – freedom to express oneself and to tell stories about the world without fear of speaking too loudly, saying too much, or not being nice enough. This kind of courage remains a rarity.”

This year’s poster is an invitation to discover films that transcend reality and open new perspectives.

Aleksander Walijewski, the artist behind the poster, describes his creative process:

“Before finalizing the poster for the second edition of Timeless Film Festival Warsaw, I created a series of conceptual sketches, each exploring different ways to represent the essence of the festival. The chosen design is, in a way, a continuation of the theme introduced in the first edition’s poster, maintaining visual consistency while bringing a fresh approach to the project.

The focal element of the poster is a multiplied portrait of Mai Zetterling. Instead of her eyes, there is a streak of light, within which I placed duplicated, enlarging pupils. Their shape evokes the lenses of a film camera. Both the light and gaze extend beyond the actress’s portrait, symbolically referencing the timelessness of classic cinema – cinema that never stops watching, observing, and inspiring.”
