The Film Weekend of the 3rd Edition of Timeless Film Festival Warsaw Begins
A day lies ahead that proves film classics are not just images on a screen, but living stories and the people who bring them to life. Today, Warsaw becomes a meeting place for filmmakers and audiences alike as we begin the first timeless weekend of the 3rd edition of Timeless Film Festival Warsaw.
A Day with a Star: Jana Nagyová at Muranów
Tomorrow, the heart of the festival will beat to the rhythm of childhood memories. The special guest of Timeless Film Festival Warsaw will be Jana Nagyová, forever remembered as Princess Arabela. This is the day’s must-see event for anyone who grew up with the magic of Czechoslovak cinema. Where can you catch her? Jana Nagyová will appear at Kino Muranów. You’ll be able to hear her introduction to the series at 2:00 pm, and join the Q&A session at around 4:15 pm.
Great cinema, important conversations: Wojciech Marczewski
At 3:30 pm in Iluzjon (Stolica screening room), another special event awaits. Join us for a screening of the cult film Escape from the “Liberty” Cinema, followed by a conversation with director Wojciech Marczewski. The discussion – on freedom, censorship and the power of cinema – will be moderated by Mateusz Demski.

Peter Weir: Mystic and Traveller
In the section devoted to the Australian master, we look deep into the human soul and the natural world. Few filmmakers have matched Weir’s gift for combining realism with the elusive and the mysterious, guiding us to the ends of the earth and into the hidden corners of conscience. Today, we especially recommend:
- The Way Back, Luna cinema, 2:30 pm – screening followed by a conversation with Judith Goldstein (moderated by Dominika Luśniak, with interpretation by Natalia Mętrak-Ruda).
- Green Card, Luna cinema, 12:15 pm – a witty and tender portrait of a New York encounter between two strangers from very different worlds.
- The Last Wave, Iluzjon cinema, 9:00 pm – a dark, symbol-laden thriller in which civilisation collides with Aboriginal belief.

Hidden gems: what else is worth seeing?
If you’re looking for cinematic treasures, here are three titles especially worth your attention tomorrow:
- Contempt, Luna cinema, 6:00 pm – Jean-Luc Godard’s visual poem starring Brigitte Bardot, still dazzling audiences with its treatment of the film-within-a-film motif. One might call it the ultimate film about filmmaking, a feat few of Godard’s successors have matched. The screening will be introduced by Julia Palmowska.
- The General, Iluzjon cinema, 1:00 pm – on the centenary of its premiere, this is the perfect chance to revisit the iconic performance of one of silent American cinema’s unquestioned legends: Buster Keaton. Psst – this is the only screening of the film during the festival.
- Diva, Luna cinema, 8:30 pm – a neon-lit, stylish crime film that helped define the look of 1980s French cinema. The screening will be introduced by Mateusz Demski.
