A Clockwork Orange
Stomping, whomping, stealing, singing, tap-dancing, violating. Hooligan Alex (Malcolm McDowell) has a good time – at the tragic expense of others. His journey from amoral punk to brainwashed proper citizen and back again forms the dynamic arc of Stanley Kubrick’s future-shock vision of Anthony Burgess’ novel. Controversial when first released, A Clockwork Orange won New York Film Critics Best Picture and Best Director Awards and earned four Oscar nominations, including Best Picture. Forty years after first hitting theaters, the power of A Clockwork Orange still entices, shocks and holds us in its grasp.

Stanley Kubrick was born in 1928 in New York. He worked as a photographer for the “Look” magazine before he began his adventure with movies. His first pictures were documentaries. He directed his first feature film Fear and Desire in 1953 as an independent producer, which back then was not a common practice. A genius, an author of visually perfect, epic masterpieces, often about the most important matters of human’s nature: Paths of Glory, A Clockwork Orange, 2001: A Space Odyssey or Barry Lyndon.
