Easy Riders, Raging Bulls: New Hollywood 1967–1980

Baudrillard’s idea that in the United States, “life is cinema” manifested itself in the 1960s and 1970s through an unprecedented symbiosis between film and reality. Realism took over the screens. Cinema depicted crisis and rebellion while simultaneously fueling the engine of resistance. The Graduate, Midnight Cowboy, The Last Picture Show, The Conversation, Dog Day Afternoon, and Raging Bull – the films presented in this section – are more than mere reflections of the era in which they were made. These titles withstand the test of time because they place the individual, not politics, at the forefront. They also provide a stage for acting legends such as Dustin Hoffman, Al Pacino, Robert De Niro, and the recently deceased Gene Hackman. Thanks to them, the business that American cinema has always been reached the heights of art during the counterculture era.
