Upon its release, The Shawshank Redemption had a stroke of bad luck – it flopped at the box office and left the Academy Awards empty-handed despite seven nominations. However, through home video distribution, it gained a devoted following and eventually achieved cult status. Today, it is widely regarded as one of the greatest films of all time, consistently ranking at the top of IMDb’s Top 250 Movies list.
