Sunday at Timeless Film Festival Warsaw

It’s the penultimate day of this year’s edition – time to enjoy one more full day of timeless cinema. Let’s spend this Sunday walking between cinemas, meeting filmmakers, and watching unforgettable films.

Daniel Olbrychski: Face to Face with a Legend

Today, we meet one of the most iconic figures in Polish cinema. As part of the Daniel Olbrychski retrospective, we’re screening Janusz Morgenstern’s Jovita (11:45 AM, Iluzjon cinema) – a poetic tale of lost illusions and bittersweet reality, as well as one of the most emotionally layered explorations of love in Polish film history.

Meet the Filmmakers

Sunday brings a lineup of screenings followed by Q&As and discussions with special guests. At 2:00 PM in Iluzjon cinema, join us for Meeting Mai + Lines from the Heart, part of our Maja Zetterling retrospective. After the screening, we’ll be joined by her son, Louis Lemkow Zetterling. The conversation will be led by Klara Cykorz, cultural scholar, film critic, and winner of the Krzysztof Mętrak Critics’ Competition.

Later, at 5:00 PM, we return to Iluzjon cinema for Evening Bells, followed by a conversation with director Lordan Zafranović and film scholar Patrycjusz Pająk, author of Arcydzieła chorwackiego filmu fabularnego (Masterpieces of Croatian Cinema). The talk will be moderated by Dr. Maša Guštin, a university lecturer specializing in Balkan cinema and culture.

What Else to Watch on Sunday?

Two standout films by masters of American cinema close out the day: Sam Peckinpah’s Cross of Iron (8:45 PM, Iluzjon cinema) – his only war film, a gripping and brutal anti-war epic that echoes Paths of Glory; Martin Scorsese’s Raging Bull (12:30 PM, Ziemia Obiecana) – a raw, unforgettable portrait of a boxer’s rise and fall, and one of the greatest films ever made.
